Frequently asked questions

How does scheduling offiicals work?

Scheduling this coming 2020/21 season will be scheduled through an online scheduling software. Other associations have chossen to use very expensive software and waste valuble money on this so we are hesitant to join them just for the conveniece of our members but we are exploring many options

How often are officials paid

Officials are paid every two weeks via mailed checks but this coming season we are trying to move to direct deposit

Do you have to have USA Hockey Certification to ref?

100% YES! If you do not have a current USAH Card/Crest then you will not be allowed to officiate games Please Note: NWOA is a leader in innovative ways of developing offiicals so we do offer a non-registered program for registered players to experiment with officiating on 10U scrimmage games where no training, certification or judgement occures. If intrested email Jarrod Boman - Jarrod@NwRefs.com

Can a NWOA Member work for other associations?

100% YES!! We do not hold any judgments or reservations for officials trying to work as many games as they can or at any level they chose to work! Truely dedicated to developing officials and not just saying that, we will PROVE this satatement and not just make it! Our board members are allowed to officiate anywhere and our members are expected to officiate as much as they are wanting to officiate in as many places as they can officiate

How old can you be to officiate?

USA Hockey has no minimum or maximum ages for officials. It is highly recommended that officials not work games of their own age classification or higher, regardless of level attained. Generally, officials can sucessfully officiate as young as age ten years old

Can a member of another referee association officiate games for NWOA?

Absolutely! As an independent contractor thru USAH you're allowed to officiate where you want and are available to work. Register, so you can be included in any and all of the NWOA contact information
